v1959 in riviera stripe linen/silk

My go-to pant these days is V1959, from my newest Vogue pattern, a wardrobe of pieces that work together and as separates. This is a comfortable soft pant with just the right amount of fullness (allow 4-6" of ease in the hips), and gently tapered hem.

The unique oval drop pocket is surprisingly easy to sew.

  • Mark the pocket shape using tracing paper or tailor’s tacks on both the garment and pocket.
  • Match the pocket markings with the garment and pocket, right sides together.
  • Stitch around the oval using a small (2.0) stitch length.
  • Cut the pocket opening down the center, clip into the oval clipping up to but not beyond the stitching line making the clips about ⅛” apart in the oval area.
  • Turn and press.
  • Topstitch around the pocket opening, stitching close to the edge. Press
  • Position the pocket back to the pocket front, matching edges. Stitch around the pocket edge.
  • Baste upper edge of the pocket to the pant to keep it in place.

KATHERINE'S ELLSWORTH SHIRT IN BLACK HANKY LINEN

KATHERINE SAYS:

The Ellsworth Shirt is a simple, flattering shirt that I will wear all summer. The pattern itself runs larger than I wanted so I cut this version smaller and longer, while simplifying and lengthening the sleeves.

Notes and changes made to the pattern:

  • Black hanky linen was machine washed and dried. The finished shirt will no longer go in the dryer and will be worn purposely wrinkled.
  • I cut two sizes smaller than my normal size. Paper fit the front and back to determine which size pattern will give you the look you want.
  • Added 8” in length, shifting the side openings down on the pattern.
  • Added 3” in length to the center front, grading up to the side. This adjusted the front length to make accommodation for a full bust and tummy.
  • Added 1” to the sleeve length.
  • Cut 4 sleeve cuffs and used them to make a simple turn back cuff with a slit.
  • Added an extra 1½” band down the front. ...READ MORE ON THE BLOG

LIBERTY TANA LAWN SUMMER DUVET COVER

LIBERTY FABRICS

CROSSOVER FABRICS

I am obsessed with Liberty of London’s trademarked Tana Lawn Italian cottons and love to combine different prints in pattern play. If you are already a Liberty lover then you know how sensual and visual these silky cottons are. In my personal stash, I keep an ever-growing library of Liberty cottons to create new summer bedscapes—duvet covers and pillowcases as well as for garments. They make for ultra-luxe bedding.

During my summer sewing staycation, I whipped up a lightweight duvet cover shown above and below. Liberty cottons are so fine that you can simply tear them as opposed to cutting them because everything is on grain.

Tearing makes for an easy-peasy process. I love to make my duvet covers square, and for this one, I needed to finish at 85" on all sides. I would tear them into strips, stitch them together, and add more as needed, measuring carefully so it would finish 85" x 85". Love how this colorful Liberty collage duvet cover adds a pop of color to my otherwise black-and-white style.

I used about ten different Liberty cottons, some from my from my personal stash/collection, others from our current Liberty Collection, and four on the back. To be clear, I am not a quilter, and this is not meant to be an heirloom quilt—just a fun way to keep home decor feeling fresh each season.

Gearing up for hot weather and travel. It has been hot HOT here in Southern Oregon, and I'm heading to LA on a buying trip soon - want light airy clothes. The pieces in my latest pattern, Vogue 1959, the Summer Wardrobe are perfect for home and travel.

The pant is Plume Woven, a airy cool rayon with a flattering floaty drape, perfect for a soft pant. The top is Black Pepper Dots Plissé, a cool airy Japanese cotton, and the 3/4 sleeves are air conditioned Fay Cotton Eyelet.

Barbie Pink

With Barbie bringing on the bacon at the box office, we thought it would be fun to feature the world’s most fabulous color, pink.

Shown here is a girl's dress made by Diane from the ArtBarn team for her young friend Olivia, using three of our new striped pink USA knits, Lori and Suzanne. Diane used a fun kids pattern available from Puperita.
