Stunning shimmering rich rust velvet. Beautiful quality light/mid-weight, with a luxurious hand, fluid drape, silky smooth back side, with crosswise stretch, some lengthwise stretch and excellent recovery. Cut for nap. A fabric to dress up or down, right for a top, t-shirt, dress, skirt, cardigan, hoodie, jacket, soft pants or leggings.

Sewing & Pressing Tips:

Mark with tailor’s tacks. I use embroidery thread for this as it does not pull out easily. Take one stitch through the fabric leaving ¾” tails. One stitch only. Then gently separate the layers and clip the threads. Or, mark with a dressmaker’s pencil, making a dot at each marking. I lick the pencil to give it a bit more color and lasting power. The biggest sewing challenge is to keep the fabric from shifting as you sew. My preferred method is to use a walking foot in combination with spray adhesive like 505 Spray. Cover your work surface with paper, and carefully mask off the seam allowance with paper. Spray a light consistent amount of spray within the seam allowance, then carefully line up the edges, right sides together and stitch. This is quick and works beautifully. It is a little known secret of couture houses that for years the seamstresses have relied on similar spray adhesives for just this purpose.

Pressing: Keep a light hand, use a LOT of steam, and use a clapper.

Care: wash/dry gentle/delicate.

Dramatic floral with a double-border and dotty center panel is printed in black on white mesh. Sheer, soft and drapey with lengthwise stretch, so cut on the crossgrain. Borders are 14" and the repeat is 8". This is a semi-sheer lightly textured mesh that can be used in a single layer over a cami, used in a double layer or lined for a simple top, dress, cardigan or T. I also use these sheers for sleeves, edgings and trims.

Stitching over the open spaces in lace and mesh could cause problems. Totally Stable to the rescue. While you can use tissue paper or even computer paper, Totally Stable works like a charm because it is designed as a tear-away for machine embroiderers. It is a fusible too, but I ignore that entirely. One side has a light fusible and is slightly shiny, the other is matte. It comes in white and black. (On a side note, this works beautifully on knits to prevent waffling and rippling). It does not matter which side is up. I cut a batch into 1" strips, place on top of the area to be sewn and stitch away. On a long seam, just overlap the strips. Even works on curves. Curve or cut in sections to fit as Totally Stable is soft and a bit malleable. It tears away easily, does not get caught in the stitching, even tiny stitches, it sort of dissolves. If some remains in the stitches it is easy to pull out, which is not the case with other papers like computer paper or tissue paper.

Pre-treat by machine wash gentle and air dry, and do the same after sewing.

What is an ITY knit?
ITY means INTERLOCK TWIST YARN and refers to a new process of putting an innovative twist into the yarn that is used for knit fabrics. This is one of the new microfiber (polyester) fabrics and is a darling of the fashion world, so it is showing up in fabric stores. It is all over the place in ready to wear at all price points. In the fabric markets I am seeing it in polyester/microfiber and lycra/spandex jersey prints which have a beautiful drape, lovely soft feel and good stretch and recovery. Another big plus is that it does not pill and the texturing process gives it some breathe-ability. ITY jerseys are easy to cut and sew as they don’t curl and hold a press well. I love them for t-shirts, but they are great for little skirts and knit dresses (think that classic Diane Von Furstenburg wrap dress). The drape and stretch are REALLY good...so I add a bit of extra ease at the side seams and double check the fit before sewing the side seams to be sure the ease is right -- you don’t want this fabric too tight. IYT knits come in incredible prints and colors.

Pre-treat by tossing in the washer and dryer, then wash on gentle and air dry. After sewing, hand launder or machine wash gentle and air dry.
