Unusual and beautiful quality silk matka is embroidered with cording accented with subtle beads and sequins in an airy floral motif, 80's vintage, deadstock from a NYC designer, produced in Inda. The pale celadon green stems and swirls are a flat supple cording that is zig-zagged in place, the stamens set in the flowers are small sequins and wooden beads. The back is flat and smooth with the embroidery thread a faint shadow in the same natural color. The fabric is mid weight yet not thick or heavy, has a linen like texture with a soft hand and soft malleable drape and the stitching is lightweight yet sturdy. Silk matka, also known as raw silk, is created by warping together extracted fibers of silkworm cocoons, then the silk is spun together by hand without removing sericin from the fibers, which helps to keep the fabric thick while retaining its extremely soft texture. Because of the particular methodology that goes into creating this silk, it is hard to find and manufacture. Right for a jacket, coat, vest, kimono, accessories or home decor. Has a one way design, 7" repeat.

Dry clean. Test a swatch if you want to hand launder and air dry.
